What is 5G?
The world has reached the same speed limits as 4G LTE, 4G LTE, but not fully focused on 4G speeds. In April 2019, for the first time in the world, 5G technology in South Korea covered about 85% of the country’s six major cities. Its 5G download speed was 430 megabits per second.
For the first time in South Asia, Sri Lanka also received 5G testing and micro-coverage zones.
This technology has higher internet speeds and lower latency than 4G, making it easier for IoT devices, ie Smart Homes. 5G is the best way to do household appliances and light bulbs online.
To experience 5G speeds you need a phone or router such as 5G. At the time of this writing, the number of 5G phones available in the world is very limited, and the world will still have to wait until 5G is available for low-cost phones. However, it is not a problem as the full 5G coverage is not yet widespread, and device manufacturers are increasing rapidly.
Even before 5G was born, everyone was in awe of the various types of electromagnetic radiation around us. There have been talking around the world of television and radio, WiFi and the effects of 3G. In addition, rumors and fears that radiation is being triggered by satellite signals to the earth, from the microwave oven at home, to the television or CRT monitors.
This is so far-fetched that there is a state of mind in the so-called electromagnetic hypersensitivity. Those who suffer from it say that they can feel the effects of the surrounding radiation devices, such as telephones, WiFi, bulbs, plugs, wires, and watches. If you watched the Better Call Saul TV series you probably saw that Saul’s brother had this disease. It depicts the state of mental illness and even points out how he wrapped a foil sheet to protect himself from electromagnetic radiation while leaving the house.
Well, research shows that there are no more than 1,000 people who have had such a real wave effect even when they have been deceived into using electromagnetic waves of over 1,000 people. The World Health Organization (WHO) also confirms that such conditions can be caused by stress at work or home environments, air quality, and misalignment of computers. How dangerous are electromagnetic waves?
The wavelength effect we use here is called radiofrequency radiation (RFR). These radio waves range from microwave to X-ray waves. These range from the sun or even your phone’s visible light waves. So inherently, they don’t hurt us. But depending on the environment (eg, the number of rays exposed at a time, the frequency of exposure), it can be damaging.
Scientists consider a harmless RFR condition depending on whether the wave is capable of ionization. The optical illumination, infrared radiation of TV remote, and low-frequency communications (WiFi, 5G, etc.) do not carry this capability. They belong to the type of non-ionizing waves that cannot break chemical bonds. Microwave waves are different. It is not ionized, but it is tuned to the extent that water particles, which are essential for cooking, can be harmed by tissue.
X-rays and gamma rays with higher frequencies have ionization potential. Ionization causes cell destruction, DNA mutation. If you’ve seen the latest Chernobyl TV series, you may have realized this.
Research on 2G, 3G and 4G waves
Except for ionization, it remains unknown whether there is any mechanism that can affect a low-frequency wave. Some research suggests that this does not mean that the waves are affected.
The American National Phylogenetics Program describes rats exposed to the mobile radio range. Accordingly, male rats exposed to 2G and 3G telephone
signals have a significantly increased risk of heart cancer and a lower risk of adrenal gland cancer. There is no significant difference in females.
According to a study by the University of California, USA, 4G waves can affect both the left and right sides of the human brain. He noted that in a 2011 study using CDMA waves (2G and 3G), 50 minutes of telephone exposure affected the locations of the brain, while a 30-minute exposure to new LTE (4G) interrupted brain function. Long-term use can also affect head and neck cancer, sperm damage, and reproductive systems. Therefore, children and pregnant mothers should stay away, ”he added.
Another research using 2G and 3G waves found that the piglets were exposed to structural and even DNA changes.
So what we need to do is not to shy away from the fear of technology but to embrace technology as we always say, by expanding the horizons of technology in a sustainable way. For example, you can use a headset when
making phone calls. The problem of telephone towers is something every country faces.
The status of 5G waves
The speed of data circulation increases proportionally to the frequency of communications (or electromagnetic) waves, but as a result, it decreases the distance traveled. This is why 4G waves are not well received in the countryside. 5G waves also cause this problem in the city, so small transmission towers have to be installed on nearby buildings. This means that not only will you get better internet signal coverage, but the amount of exposure to the waves will also increase.
No detailed research has been conducted on 5G waves. But if the body can be affected even by 2G and 3G at low-frequency range, what about 5G everywhere?
